Demonstration of teleoperation using, constructed in the Foundation for Cardiac Surgery Development, Robin Heart robot has opened the annual conference on medical robots (10 December, 2010). Remotely performed treatment was performed on the basis of electrocoagulation of pig hearts. Heart and Robin Heart Vision robot, with mounted an appropriate tool on the arm (thermal knife), were placed at the Center for Experimental Medicine in Katowice SUM. The control console Robin Heart Shell was at the headquarters of the Foundation for Cardiac Surgery Development in Zabrze. Joanna Śliwa has sat behind the control console. She operated on the basis of endoscopic image from the track. The conference participants could observe the treatment of several camera shots in Zabrze and Katowice and directly from the robot control console.
The experiment was the first and most important point of the conference of medical robots, which was organized by the Foundation already for the eighth time. The meeting brought together scientists, designers, builders and users of medical robotics aimed at supporting the processes of treatment or patient care. The meeting as divided into thematic sessions focusing on issues such as: progress in the development of Polish medical robots, technologies for medical robotics, surgical robot control, the ethical aspects of medical robotics. Fifteen presentations were presented and prepared by teams from a dozen research centers. Foundation also presented effects of its work, including Robin Heart robot mc2, a virtual operating rooms and a rehabilitation robot, made by the ITAM Zabrze. Also young autors of medical robotics works were awarded. The main prize – Robin Statuette and the Audience Award – Robin Arrow – was received by Marta Kordasz and Peter Sauer from Poznań University of Technology for a "Preliminary kinematics and dynamics analysis of the knee rehabilitation manipulator." There was also distinction for Daniel Gorzkowski from Warsaw University of Technology for "Laparoscopic procedures manipulator project." The conference "Medical Robots" was also an opportunity to emphasize that works started in Foundation on polish surgical robot have already 10th year tradition. At the time the project matured, developed, and is close to clinical implementation. He successfully passed through experimental in vivo operations and teleoperation which was supported by: Emitel Sp., CHP and CMD Zabrze, Silesian Medical School in Katowice. Thank you very much!!! Experience gained in the development of the Robin Heart robot has provided an opportunity to create on 10th December this year an International Society for Medical Robotics (site: www.medicalrobots.eu). President of the Association became Zbigniew Nawrat – the initiator and leader of Robin Heart surgery robot project, a longtime organizer of the Zabrze conferences, author or coauthor of over 200 publications and publisher of the first in Polish book dedicated to medical robots. The full composition of the Management of the Society: President - Zbigniew Nawrat (FRK, Zabrze), Vice President - Joanna Śliwka (SCCS, Zabrze), Krzysztof Mianowski (PW, Warsaw); Secretary - Mark Ciembroniewicz (EMSI, Siemianowice Sl.) and Treasurer - Waldemar Pudlo ( FRK, Zabrze).
