Currently, there are lasting works in the research area of "Robots and Innovative Surgery Tools" to develop and implement an innovative system of clinical tools for surgeons. The carried out activities field covers both mechatronic devices that extension hands of operator in a less invasive way for patient (robots, semi-automatic tools) and use all methods of modeling and simulation for the optimization process and the effect of surgery and meeting teaching (position and method of training surgeons, teleconsultation).

Modern surgery developed largely thanks to the latest achievements of science, implementation of new methods, techniques and technologies. Advances in surgical instrumentation, methods of planning operations and teaching, cause the increase of the effectiveness and safety of operation, reduces pain and recovery time of patients. Improving of ergonomics and precision (especially important during an operation on the beating heart) can be obtained by developing new tools for mechatronic: robots and semi-surgical instruments. The result of Polish research project completed in June 2003 is a family of prototype Robin Heart robots. Robots are beeing tested and versions of tool arms clinical and endoscopic control the camera position are beeing developed (Robin Heart Vision). The robot is the first tool to directly apply the methods of simulation and planning of operations to support the process of handling a patient, so there was created an intelligent voice-controlled base for operations consultancy specialized robot named Robin Heart EXPERT. In the future, attempts will be made to control the device longer distances , called teleoperations.

Good and businesslike cooperation of multidisciplinary research team of doctors is one of the strong arguments for their projects. There are specialized programs for surgeons being developed such as expert associated with the use of artificial organs or new tools. Prepared medical education system includes a series of workshops during which you can practice your skills by using prototypes and models of robot and all the others, both classic and innovative tools, doing specific stages of surgery. We also have robotized operating room for teaching purposes, where you can control in an integrated manner a number of elements and the operating room or laparoscopic tools or Robin Heart robot. For the purposes of teaching and research there is an using of the latest achievements in the field of interactive virtual space developed, in order to test the real robot in the virtual patient for the selected type of surgical operation and planning of operations. We proceed operations in order to build a professional training center of innovative surgical techniques in the investment center BioMedTech Silesia.

During the workshops organized in Foundation of Cardiac Surgery Development, you can learn the basic surgical steps, sewing, learn and develop your practical skills and criticize executing research and implementation of innovative surgical instruments and medical robots. You are sincerely invited!
